What can you bring to Tech School? 

So you’re getting ready to join the Air Force and you’re looking into what Tech School is like. One of the first questions you might have is what are you allowed to bring to Tech School and what are you allowed to have while you’re at Tech School.

Well, Tech School is a lot like college, minus the dorm parties. You can have basically anything you want in your dorm room except for someone of the opposite sex, alcohol, candles, or pets. Some locations may also prohibit cooking appliances such as toasters or coffee pots in your room. You’ll typically have a refrigerator in your dorm room and possibly a microwave already.

In most Tech Schools you are allowed to have a TV along with gaming systems and a laptop or computer. However some locations require that all electronics be unplugged (except for the fridge) while you aren’t in your room. Some may even require that all personal belongings be locked away like laptops, computers, gaming systems, etc. It all depends on the rules for your specific Tech School.

My advice is to pack a box or luggage before going to BMT of things you want a friend or family member to bring or ship to you at Tech School. Unfortunately your loved one can’t bring it to you at your BMT graduation to take with you. You’ll already have several bags from all your Air Force gear and they won’t let you bring new luggage or items back to the dorms after graduation before shipping to Tech School.

Pack things like clothes, electronics, and makeup. Anything that is cheap and easy to buy like deodorant or body wash you can just buy when you’re at Tech School so don’t worry about packing it. Packing for Tech School is a lot easier than packing for BMT because you’ll be able to go shopping whenever you want while you’re in Tech School so if you forget something it’s not that big of a deal.

Tech School is a lot of fun and a bit like college since you’re going to school all day and then you have the evenings to hangout and do what you want. There are just a few more rules and regulations in Tech School compared to college. But overall you’ll find that after BMT, you’ll be plenty happy with your living conditions.
