As a Low Observable Aircraft Structural Maintenance specialist in the 2A7X5 career field, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and repairing low observable (LO) coatings and materials on aircraft within the Air Force. Your responsibilities will include inspecting and repairing aircraft surfaces, applying LO coatings, and ensuring compliance with technical specifications. This position requires a high level of technical expertise, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining the stealth capabilities of aircraft.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Low Observable Coating Application: Apply and repair low observable coatings and materials on aircraft surfaces, including radar-absorbing materials and special coatings. Use specialized tools, equipment, and techniques to achieve proper coating thickness and texture. Ensure compliance with technical specifications and quality standards for LO coatings.
2. Surface Inspection and Repair: Inspect aircraft surfaces for defects, damage, or erosion that may affect the LO characteristics. Perform repairs to damaged or degraded LO coatings, including sanding, patching, and blending techniques. Ensure proper surface preparation and adhesion of LO coatings to maintain stealth capabilities.
3. LO Systems Maintenance: Maintain and repair LO systems and components, such as LO panels, antennas, and fasteners. Conduct inspections, tests, and adjustments to ensure proper functioning and structural integrity. Perform component replacements and repairs as needed to maintain the LO capabilities of the aircraft.
4. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate documentation of LO maintenance activities, including inspections, repairs, and coating applications. Complete required maintenance forms, logs, and work orders. Generate reports on LO system status, maintenance requirements, and recommended improvements. Collaborate with team members and supervisors to provide updates on projects and ongoing maintenance efforts.
5. Safety and Compliance: Adhere to safety procedures and regulations when working with LO coatings and materials. Follow established protocols for handling hazardous materials and operating specialized equipment. Ensure compliance with technical orders, maintenance procedures, and safety guidelines. Report any safety concerns or incidents promptly.
Qualifications:
- Comprehensive knowledge of low observable coatings, materials, and application techniques.
- Proficiency in using specialized tools, equipment, and techniques for LO coating application and repair.
- Familiarity with LO systems and components on aircraft.
- Ability to interpret technical manuals, diagrams, and procedures.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with team members and stakeholders.
- Attention to detail and commitment to following strict protocols and safety guidelines.
- Physical fitness and the ability to perform tasks requiring lifting, bending, and prolonged standing.
- U.S. citizenship and eligibility for a security clearance.
