As a Diet Therapy Specialist in the 4D0X1 career field, you will play a vital role in providing nutritional care and support to patients within the United States Air Force. Your responsibilities will include assessing nutritional needs, developing customized diet plans, and educating patients on healthy eating habits. This position requires a strong understanding of nutrition principles, excellent communication skills, and a passion for promoting optimal health and wellness.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Nutritional Assessment: Conduct thorough assessments of patients' nutritional needs, taking into consideration their medical conditions, dietary preferences, and lifestyle factors. Collect and analyze data, including medical history, dietary intake, and laboratory results, to determine appropriate nutritional interventions.

2. Diet Planning and Counseling: Develop personalized diet plans that align with patients' nutritional needs and medical requirements. Collaborate with healthcare professionals, including physicians and dietitians, to ensure diet plans are tailored to individual patient goals. Provide counseling and education on healthy eating habits, portion control, and special dietary restrictions.

3. Menu Planning and Implementation: Collaborate with food service personnel to develop and implement menus that meet patients' nutritional needs and preferences. Ensure menus comply with dietary guidelines and regulatory standards. Monitor food production processes to maintain quality and safety.

4. Nutritional Documentation: Maintain accurate and organized documentation of patients' nutritional assessments, interventions, and progress. Document dietary changes, nutritional goals, and patient education provided. Use electronic health record systems and other relevant software to record and retrieve patient information.

5. Nutrition Education and Promotion: Conduct educational sessions and presentations to promote healthy eating habits and lifestyle modifications. Provide guidance on weight management, disease prevention, and nutritional support during various life stages. Stay updated on current research and trends in nutrition to deliver evidence-based information.

Qualifications:

- U.S. citizenship and eligibility for a Secret security clearance.

- Successful completion of Basic Military Training and the Diet Therapy Apprentice Course.

- Knowledge of nutrition principles, dietary guidelines, and medical nutrition therapy.

- Familiarity with nutrition assessment tools and techniques.

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with patients and healthcare professionals.

- Ability to develop and modify diet plans based on individual needs and goals.

- Understanding of food safety and sanitation practices.

- Basic computer skills for data entry and record keeping.

- Ability to handle sensitive patient information with discretion.
