Can you have a car at tech school?
This can sometimes be a complicated situation. But the overall answer is yes. You can have a car at Tech School if you wish. Keep in mind that when you first arrive at Tech School you’ll be in Phase 1 or ITP and you won’t be able to drive or ride in vehicles. But once you reach Phase 2 or ATP you’ll be able to drive your car.
Most people have their friends or parents drive their car to Tech School. It’s easiest if your friend or family member drives your car to you once you reach Phase 2 or ATP that way you can actually drive/ride in your car right away. That way you can also drive your friend or family member to the airport for them to fly back home.
Rarely do people buy cars in Tech School and I personally wouldn’t recommend it. It’s not necessary. Having a car does make Tech School a lot more enjoyable though. Having a car allows you to go out and explore on weekends rather than spending a ton of money on taxis/Uber, or just staying in the dorms the entire time. But usually a few Airmen will have cars at Tech School so you can always be friends with someone who does have a car there or you can split the cost of taxis/Uber rides.
If you are active duty I would really avoid purchasing a car in Tech School because there is a chance you could get stationed overseas so you would have to sell it right away or put it in storage and let it sit while it costs you money.
