As a Tactical Aircraft Maintenance Technician in the 2A3X3 career field, you will play a critical role in ensuring the operational readiness and mission success of Air Force tactical aircraft. Your responsibilities will include inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining various systems and components to ensure safe and efficient operation of these advanced aircraft. This position requires technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Aircraft Maintenance: Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on tactical aircraft. Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and avionics systems, including engines, airframes, flight controls, landing gear, and weapons systems. Adhere to technical manuals, maintenance procedures, and safety regulations to ensure the highest standards of maintenance and operational readiness.
2. Component Repair and Replacement: Remove, install, and align aircraft components and systems, such as engines, landing gear, hydraulic systems, avionics equipment, and weapons systems. Test repaired or replaced components to ensure proper functioning. Conduct adjustments, calibrations, and functional checks to maintain aircraft performance.
3. Inspections and Documentation: Conduct pre-flight, post-flight, and periodic inspections to identify and rectify discrepancies. Document maintenance actions, equipment status, and component life cycles accurately. Utilize maintenance databases and computer-based systems to track maintenance activities and manage aircraft maintenance records.
4. System Troubleshooting: Diagnose and troubleshoot complex aircraft systems using technical manuals, diagnostic equipment, and specialized tools. Analyze system malfunctions, identify root causes, and implement appropriate corrective actions. Collaborate with other maintenance personnel and engineering teams to resolve complex technical issues.
5. Safety and Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment. Follow established maintenance procedures and comply with maintenance and flight regulations. Participate in safety training programs and contribute to safety risk assessments and hazard identification.
6. Preventive Maintenance: Perform scheduled preventive maintenance inspections and services on aircraft systems and components. Conduct lubrication, cleaning, and adjustments to ensure proper operation and prevent system failures. Replace consumable parts and adhere to prescribed maintenance intervals.
7. Weapons Systems Maintenance: Maintain and service weapons systems, including munitions loading and unloading. Ensure compliance with weapon handling and safety procedures. Conduct functional checks and test firing of weapons systems.
8. Team Collaboration: Work effectively as part of a maintenance team to accomplish assigned tasks and meet operational deadlines. Communicate and coordinate with supervisors, peers, and other personnel to ensure efficient workflow and effective maintenance operations. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior technicians as required.
9. Continuous Learning: Stay updated on technological advancements, maintenance procedures, and regulations related to tactical aircraft. Attend training programs, workshops, and seminars to enhance technical knowledge and skills. Embrace a culture of continuous improvement and actively contribute to process enhancements and efficiency initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Minimum high school diploma or equivalent (higher education preferred).
- Successful completion of Air Force Tactical Aircraft Maintenance technical training (2A333 or equivalent).
- Strong technical knowledge of tactical aircraft systems, components, and maintenance procedures.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and avionics systems.
- Familiarity with technical manuals, diagnostic equipment, and maintenance databases.
- Attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Physical fitness and the ability to work in various weather conditions.
- U.S. citizenship and eligibility for a security clearance.
