Airmen describing In-Flight Refueling

Enlisted In-Flight Refueling Specialist (AFSC 1A0X1) is an exciting and challenging job in the United States Air Force. This position is responsible for performing a variety of in-flight refueling tasks, from operating the refueling boom to supervising cargo- and passenger-loading and off-loading operations. This position requires excellent communication skills, a keen attention to detail, and the ability to follow safety procedures and regulations strictly.

The duties of an Enlisted In-Flight Refueling Specialist include:

  • Directing receiver aircraft into air refueling position and advising receiver pilot of actions required to complete the refueling process

  • Operating refueling boom and transferring fuel between aircraft

  • Supervising cargo- and passenger-loading and off-loading operations

  • Checking and maintaining service equipment available on the flight

  • Performing jumpmaster duties when necessary

  • Ensuring accurate recording of all flight data and performance records

  • Completing all required reports and paperwork

  • Performing other duties as assigned
