Airmen describing Generation Vehicular Equipment Maintenance

Generation Vehicular Equipment Maintenance in the Air Force refers to the maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment used to generate power, such as generators and power plants. This includes preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of engines, electrical systems, and other components. The primary function of Generation Vehicular Equipment Maintenance is to ensure that the equipment is in good working condition and ready for use when needed.

The personnel in this role are responsible for maintaining equipment readiness, performing inspections, and completing necessary repairs and maintenance. They also may be responsible for ordering and maintaining spare parts inventory. They might also be responsible for troubleshoot and repair of the power distribution systems and the equipment that are connected to it.

Individuals in this role must have knowledge and skills in mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems as well as the ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics. They also must have the ability to work independently and as part of a team and must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.

Vehicle Maintenance or VM, is being a mechanic. VM airmen troubleshoot, repair, and maintain Air Force vehicle assets. They work on a wide range of vehicles and equipment to include Ford F-250's, Caterpillar D6 Dozers, Volvo, John Deere, JCB, Chevrolet, and specialized military vehicles such as HMMWV (also known as Humvee's), LMTV's, MRAP's, and others. Typically, you will have a General Purpose shop (GP), a Special Purpose shop (SP), a Customer Service Center (CSC), Materiel Control Section (MatCon) and Allied Trades (Body Shop). Some locations will have other shops to service specific missions they are in charge of.
