What to wear to BMT
What to wear to BMT
Do your best not to stand out like crazy when shipping to BMT. Your recruiter should explain to you what is appropriate for MEPS and BMT.
Typically this will be a shirt and/or sweatshirt, and pants of some sort such as jeans or slacks that don’t have holes, rips, or stains. Avoid clothing that is flashy and draws attention. You’ll also be able to fit another shirt or pair of pants if your bag has room in your bag that you pack for BMT.
You should wear and pack items that you actually like wearing. This is because the clothes you wear and pack for BMT will be all you head to tech school with after BMT. Well that, and your uniforms. But you’ll want clothes you like wearing that are comfortable once you get to Tech School. Especially since it will have been 2 months since you last wore civilian clothes.
I would recommend you wear a comfortable pair of jeans and shirt that don’t gather a lot of attention. You can pack a pair of gym shorts, an extra shirt or two and possibly another pair of pants if you have room that you wouldn't mind wearing the first few weeks of tech school. Depending on the weather you might want to wear a sweatshirt or coat to BMT as well.
Something my MTI told us when we were in BMT was “If you have to ask if it’s okay, it’s probably not”
This is great advice for a lot of things in the Air Force. If you think something might possibly be wrong, it’s always best to error on the side of caution and not do it. If you look at what you want to wear to BMT and you think “I’m not sure if this is okay to wear to BMT”, then it’s probably not. Even if it is okay, you’ll be nervous thinking it might not be okay so it’s better to just do what you know for sure is okay.
