PT prep for Air Force BMT

PT prep for Air Force BMT

One of the more common questions I get is, "How do I physically prepare for BMT?"

When you go to BMT you don’t want to be the person who isn’t prepared for PT.

It is going to make life a lot easier on yourself to get prepared before going.

A large part of Air Force Basic Training, and the military in general, is physical fitness. You will be expected to maintain specific standards not only to complete basic training but also throughout your entire Air Force career. Below is a download button for my BMT Fitness Prep Guide

This 4-week program is designed for future trainees striving to attain a higher level of physical readiness prior to beginning USAF BMT.

“I went from failing my PT test to scoring over a 90 with the BMT fitness prep guide!”

The Air Force PT test is made up of 3 components.

  • A mile and a half run

  • push ups

  • sit ups.

The way it’s scored is by how fast you run your mile and a half, how many pushups you can do in one minute and how many sit ups you can do in one minute.

Something you need to keep in mind is even though there are minimum numbers you have to reach in each section, you also have to have an overall score of 75 points just to pass. I give an in-depth breakdown along with sharing the specific requirements in the video below.

When I did my very first practice PT test I actually completely failed

I ran my mile and a half in 17:54, which is passing, BUT I only did 12 push ups. This automatically fails me because I didn’t hit the minimum number I needed to in push ups, which in this case is 14. I did 34 sit ups, which is passing, but that doesn’t help me, when I already failed my PT test

So this is my starting point that I worked to improve

I started using the BMT Fitness Prep Guide on that is available here on Airman Vision.

It’s a 4-week program designed for future trainees who want to reach a higher level of physical readiness before going to Air Force Basic Training. This program is designed to help you, not only meet, but exceed the BMT standards for physical fitness.

After 7 weeks of following the BMT Fitness Prep Guide I was able to consistently score over a 90 on my PT test! I was so happy with the progress that I made and if you all want to get ready for PT before going to BMT, you can get the BMT Fitness Prep guide for yourself!
