Can my spouse live with me at Tech School?
Can my spouse live with me at tech school?
99% of the time, no.
There are exceptions to the rules, but for most people, the answer will be no. Typically you’ll be required to live in the dorms while at Tech School. Some longer Tech Schools allow for a waiver to move out of the dorms if your family moves to the Tech School location. But this is rare. Many times it’s best to not move your family to your Tech School location.
Now, can your spouse or girlfriend/boyfriend move to where your Tech School is and pay rent for a place there? Sure, but what’s the point? It cost money to move and the Air Force won’t pay for your loved one to move to your Tech School. They would also have to live in a hotel, AirBnB, or do a month to month rental agreement in a home or apartment. None of those options are cheap. For many, Tech School is only 2-5 months long. It’s a hassle to move, and if you have someone move to Tech School to be with you, they will have to turn around and move right away again. It’s better to have them stay put wherever they are and wait until you get your first base assignment.
Your family can live with you once you get stationed at your first base if you’re married or have kids. If you’re dating or engaged, unfortunately you’ll be in the dorms when you get to your first base. So if your girlfriend/boyfriend or fiancee wants to move to where you are, you won’t be getting housing allowance yet so it will be expensive. After you’ve been at your first base for a little while, sometimes as short as 4 months, you’ll be able to move out and get housing allowance to find your own place.

So to sum up if your loved ones can live with you at Tech School, moving your family for a few months only to move them again can be hard on them so I would suggest you just wait out Tech School and leave your family at home. Once you complete Tech School, they can move with you to your first base.
