As a Public Affairs Specialist in the 3N0X6 career field, you will play a critical role in enhancing the Air Force's public image and maintaining effective communication between the military and the public. You will utilize your skills in public relations, journalism, multimedia production, and social media management to inform, educate, and engage internal and external audiences. This position demands exceptional communication abilities, creativity, and adaptability to effectively convey the Air Force's mission, values, and accomplishments.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Public Relations: Develop and execute public relations strategies to promote positive awareness and understanding of Air Force activities, missions, and personnel. Build relationships with media outlets, community organizations, and stakeholders to facilitate accurate and timely information dissemination.

  2. Media Relations: Serve as the primary point of contact for media inquiries, coordinating interviews and press conferences with Air Force personnel. Prepare press releases, statements, and other media materials. Ensure accurate and consistent messaging in media interactions.

  3. Multimedia Production: Produce engaging multimedia content, including videos, photographs, and graphics, to support public affairs campaigns and initiatives. Utilize industry-standard software and equipment to create compelling visual and audio materials that effectively convey Air Force messages.

  4. Social Media Management: Develop and maintain a strong presence on various social media platforms. Create engaging content, monitor online conversations, and respond to inquiries and comments. Leverage social media analytics to evaluate the effectiveness of campaigns and adjust strategies accordingly.

  5. Crisis Communication: Provide support during emergencies, crises, or significant events by disseminating accurate and timely information to the public, media, and internal stakeholders. Collaborate with other public affairs personnel, as well as legal and operational teams, to ensure consistent and appropriate messaging.

  6. Writing and Editing: Write, edit, and proofread a variety of materials, including news articles, feature stories, speeches, and official documents. Ensure accuracy, clarity, and adherence to Air Force writing guidelines.

  7. Event Planning: Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of public affairs events, such as open houses, air shows, and community outreach programs. Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to maximize event exposure and impact.

  8. Training and Advising: Provide guidance and training to Air Force personnel on public affairs policies, procedures, and best practices. Advise commanders and leaders on public affairs implications and strategies for various activities and initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of Air Force Public Affairs technical training (3N031 or equivalent).

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with an emphasis on AP Style.

  • Proficiency in multimedia production tools, including video editing, graphic design, and photography software.

  • Experience managing social media platforms and analyzing social media metrics.

  • Familiarity with crisis communication principles and practices.

  • Knowledge of public relations strategies and media relations.

  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities to meet deadlines and handle multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

  • U.S. citizenship and eligibility for a security clearance.
